Easter egg cards

Good Morning everyone

Today im sharing a batch of Easter cards I made using these fab bird images again, I made a little shaped card with my oval dies for an egg like effect and dug out some lace and feathers.

Card size approx 4x5"  I cut 2 large ovals from kraft card, on one i scored a line half an inch from the top and adhered that bit to the back of the 2nd oval, thus making my card base.

I die cut a piece of white with gold foiled marbling into a fancy oval, added a little stencilling with chalky actylic paints in some teal & yellow and then added to the card front.  About a third of the way up i added some feathers - glued in place with pinflair glue gel and then added a strip of lace over the top which helped hold the feathers in place, hides any glue and gives somewhere for the birds to sit.

I then added the birds with glue gel and a stamped sentiment to finish.

Version 2

Version 3

Version 4

Version 5

Version 6 - I actually made 12 varieties, all slightly different colours and birds.  These digital birds come looking one way but I reversed them in my graphics program so that I could have them facing both ways. They were printed onto Craft Master digital card from Highlight crafts.

Items Used
Digital bird images from double helix digitals on etsy
Spellbinders grand plain ovals & grand fancy oval dies
Clearly besotted sentiment stamps 'seasonal sentiments'
Various patterned papers
CraftUk ltd kraft card
Feathers
Papermania lace
aall&create diamond stencil
Sunflower stencil
Plaid Folkart chalk acrylic paints

Thank you all for stopping by once again.  I hope you have a lovely weekend. Emma

Eggs in the nest

Good Morning everyone

Today its time for a new challenge over at Creative artist mixed media where we celebrate all things mixed media

Ive decided to go seasonal again and make a lovely little birds next.  I used these digital bird images for my nieces birthday and had several left over cut out so thats what triggered my idea to build them a little nest.

8x8" Mdf shadow box frame.  Pictures below show how I built up the background and texture.  Once that was done I made a little nest out of orange and copper soft craft wire which I adhered into the box with glue gel.  I lined the nest with feathers and added a few around outside the nest and added my little eggs into place.

I then added 2 of the larger birds - yes i know technically they are 2 different birds and wouldn't be a pair but hey this is craft land and artistic license😁

I created a hanging from the same wires used for the nest and 3 matching beads on each side - got to use my beads up some how and this seemed a good way and adds a bit of bling and interest.

You can see into the nest better here - Ive had these feathers for about 10yrs so good to use some!  You can also makes out the gold dora paint better at this angle

The hanging loop I made with craft wire and beads

and onto the step by step background

After making up the mdf box i added die cut feathers (great way to use up scraps of cardstock) and then added a little texture paste through a net effect stencil which I felt would give a little tree bark like feel.  Once dry cover in white gesso

I randomly added yellow, orange, red and turquoise acrylic paints

Then a wash of van dyke brown - yep it looks a mess now but let it pool around the texture....if its too heavy in any area just dab with some tissue.  Once the first wash was dry i added a bit more in areas to make them even darker

Dry brush on antique white, pale blue & lemon chalk paint

The top coat was Cadence dora paints which have amazing shimmer, you could use gilding waxes instead.  I personally get on better with the dora paint as can dry brush it on very lightly - a little goes a very long way. Difficult to take photos off - but when the light hits it, it really comes to life.

To finish I coated it all in gloss mod podge to seal and protect.

How I made my little birds eggs.  Took little foam eggs from poundland and coated in white gesso and then pastel blue matte acrylic paint and then splattered on darker watered down acrylics to give the speckles and finished with a coat of matt mod podge.  I found it easier to handle them by sticking on a cocktail stick in some polystyrene....this does of course leave a little hole in the bottom of the eggs but easily hid when adhering them to my project

Kitty-Bea bunting

 Good Morning everyone

This week my 2nd youngest niece is 7.  At the moment she is really into garden birds so instead of a card I made some bunting with her name on and lots of lovely birds.

Trying to get a decent photo of this not been so easy.  This is it hung up - ive left the ribbon long on one end so that they can adjust it if need be for hanging up, then they can trim the excess.

As Kitty-Bea has an unique name its always nice to make something with her name on it.  She also has an abstract art style so the funky colours of these digi birds are ideal for her.

They are Mixed Media Birds clipart from etsy shop Double Helix digitals   I printed onto digital printer paper, cut them out and sealed with mod podge.  I flipped some of them before printing and printed at different sizes so that i could have them looking at each other like a pair etc...

I made a box using feather printed kraft card and used a tag I had left over from the bunting

I used a couple of beads on the ends of the bunting for some interest. I die cut the cross stitch effect fishtail banner dies from 350gsm kraft card.  I found a very old paper pad in my stash which has some of Kitty-Beas fav colours and went well with the birds. These i die cut into a smaller banner and adhered to the kraft card.  Circles die cut from the off cuts and alphas die cut from white and kraft card, matted together with a drop shadow and covered in glossy accents to give an enamelled finish.

As well as the panels with the alpha's on I added a blank panel each end so i could add a bigger bird.  I added bronze effect eyelets and used organza ribbon to join it all together.

Ive used different birds on each panel.  Although they aren't real to life colours you can easily tell by the shape and stance of each bird which type they are based on.  Kitty-Bea is lucky that where they live they get alot of different garden birds.
I added a small touch of stickles glitter glue to each bird just to add a little sparkle as what little girl doesn't love sparkle

Items Used:
Double Helix Digitals - Mixed Media birds clip art
MFT Xstitch fishtail banner die set
Stitched circle dies
Memory box Alpha dies
Very old paper pad from create&craft
Craft UKltd kraft card
Ranger glossy accents
Stickles 'diamond'

Thank you for stopping by once again and all your previous comments, I really do appreciate them all.  I hope you have a good week.  Emmax

Nesting Birdies

Good Morning everyone

Today Im sharing another spring card using the katkin krafts 'love nest' stamps

I made a sky background with turquoise brushos, once dry cut to size and added to a white base card.  I added leaf green & lime green brushos another piece of white card and die cut the spellbinders leafy frame from it.  I die cut 4 more of the leafy frames from scrap card and glued them all together to give me depth to the frame and this is easier than trying to apply foam tape to it, it also gives the frame the feel of chipboard.

I worked out where i wanted the frame on the blue background and then stamped the branches into place, i then adhered the frame.

I stamped all the birds and cherry blossom onto white card and watercoloured with derwent inktense pencils, also colouring the base images - the inktense pencils work well over the brusho background.  I then cut out the bird nests and decoupaged onto the base images with pinflair glue gel. I cut out a few of the flowers and added.

Stamped sentiment die cut into an oval to finish.  This 'step into spring' was a magazine freebie and ive used it so much as i think its a lovely sentiment, stepping out of the grey of winter and into the beauty of spring.

Just close ups.

Im not sure what my camera/light box did to the colours of these, they arent quite as luminous in real life😀

Items Used:
Katkin krafts stamps 'love nest'
Sentiment stamp
Spellbinders die
Brusho powders
derwent inktense pencils

Thank you all for stopping by once again. Ive got a day with my 5 nieces today and tomorrow so will be crafting up a storm with them, but hopefully we get a bit of the break in the rain to get some fresh air.   Hugs Emmax
