Pet Sympathy

Good Morning everyone

Recently Ive had to make 2 pet sympathy cards, Ive kept them both fairly simple and used a lovely paw print die by cheerylynn (I think)
First one is for a cat.  I used a rich gold pearl cardstock for my base which has a leafy design in it, i cut to 6x6" and then die cut the scalloped border & paw print from the front edge.  I added an insert from a rainbow print paper and stamped the sentiment onto the insert so it shows on the front.  I stamped the cat onto left over rainbow paper, cut him out and added to the front.

Just showing it side on, you can just about make on the design in the pearl cardstock, its years old from payper box

and onto a dog design

6x6" white linen base card.  I used a heart paw print stencil on the front with distress inks in cracked pistachio and evergreen bough, i also lightly inked the edge around the outside of the stencil which gave me an inked edge to the card.  I then die cut the paw prints from the middle and stamped my sentiment in grey ink.

I stamped the dog in grey and lightly watercoloured with distress inks shaded lilac and seedless preserve, cut him out and added to the front.  I used a ombre paper for my insert, added gold paint through 3 of the paw prints and edged the cardblank with more gold paint - sadly the photo doesn't show that up very well.

This photo shows the gold up much better.  I ended up doing this as glue was showing through one of the paw prints which wasn't good, the gold acrylic paint covered it nicely.

Items Used:
Paw print die
mft scalloped edge die
Paw print stencil
Tim Holtz mini crazy dog stamps
Katzelkraft cat stamp
Clearly besotted sentiment stamp
Distress Inks
Paperartsy gold paint

Thank you all for stopping by once again.  I hope you all have a good week.  Hugs Emmaxxx

Creative Artiste...

Good Morning everyone, welcome to October.

I was honoured to be offered a guest designer spot for Creative artiste Mixed Media for this month.  As it was for october my first thought was maybe a halloween mixed media project but then i saw this bone shaped mdf and thought it would be ideal for those Crazy dog stamps from Tim Holtz

Mdf bone size 12x7"....  after doing the background (see last photo below) I stamped the tim holtz crazy dogs and a couple of zinksi art dogs, coloured them with inktense pencils and cut out.  I covered them all with mod podge to give them a bit of protection.

From an empty pet food box i die cut my alpha's with a sizzix bigz die, covered with black paint and then glossy accents to give them an enamelled look.  I die cut some circles from card, painted with yellow paint, drew on lines to make them look more like tennis balls and again covered with glossy accents.

I then got arranging it all - this took longer than you might think getting the dogs in an order that i felt worked best and actually i didnt glue them down for a couple days to make sure i was happy with this finished arrangement!  I added a few Tim Holtz ideology bones, a couple of them i cut in half as you wouldn't see the whole bone anyway and made them go further.

A metal tag added above the be happy to finish which reads 'live in the moment' which i think alot of dogs do.

After a few days i felt it needed something to balance the heavy black letters so i stencilled some black paw prints around the edge to look like one of the dogs had been off for a wonder following a scent trail as they do😁.....and it made all the difference.

Of course i had to add glossy accents to the dogs eyes and noses too

and onto my background

I stencilled texture paste through a paw print & diamond stencils and once dry covered it all with black gesso.  I then added patches of crackle paste and once all was dry i built it up by dry brushing on white and cream acrylic paints adding a touch of diamond to the top layer that twinkles in the light.  I found an old tim holtz grungeboard heart in my stash which i again added texture paste paw prints to, covered in red paint and then again dry brushed on the white and cream acrylic.  I then added that to the bone and edged the bone with black paint.  This bone came with a stand but i wanted to hang it so just cut off the tabs and sanded back and punched some holes in the top with my crop o'dile.

Items Used:
MDF Bone  'dog bone on stand' from Craftshapes.co.uk
Stencils - paw print, diamond
Golden texture paste
Crackle paste
Tim Holtz crazy dog stamps
Paperartsy Zinkski art dog stamps
Derwent inktense pencils
Tim Holtz ideaology - bones, metal tag, grungeboard shapes
Sizzix Tim Holtz word play bigz die
Various acrylic paints

Thank you all for stopping by and to everyone at creative artiste mixed media.blogspot for welcoming me to join them this month.  I hope you all have a good weekend.  Hugs Emmaxx

Purrfect

Good Morning everyone, i hope you are holding in there.

Today im sharing a little fun mixed media piece, i found this cat head shaped MDF piece in a home decor department - I thought it would be perfect for decorating.

Size approx 6x5".    I first covered it with white gesso to give a base and cover up the printed sentiment.  I then added paw prints using a stencil and texture paste, once dry I then sprayed with water and added purple brusho's and pixie powder and let them do their thing.  Using the brusho's onto gesso gives them a nice soft finish.
Once dry i added torn pieces of printed tissue paper, especially behind where i wanted my cat to go - to do this i brushed the tissue with water where i wanted to tear it -this gives a nice soft edge when tearing, then add mod podge to the base, brushed on my tissue paper and sealed over the top with more medium, making sure the edges are well sealed.

I then lightly dried bushed white gesso over the top to blend in the edges of the tissue paper, less is more and build it up slowly.
I then added stars using a stencil and a gold pearl texture paste. Then i very lightly brushed over the top with an orange pearl paint - you could use a guilding wax, i used orange as wanted it to co-ordinate with my Ginger Tom Cat, i also chose purple for the background so that my ginger tom would really stand out.

I then stamped my cat, coloured with inktense pencils and fussy cut him out, added glossy accents to his eyes and a little black glitter to his nose and bow tie.  I computer printed my words, cut them out, mounted onto black cardstock and added glossy accents over the top.

I gently curved Mr Tom before adding with glue gel to add dimension, then arranged my sentiment.  I painted the sides and back with lilac paint and lightly edged with the orange pearl to finish.
Close up on the dashing Mr Tom.
After lots of thinking i came up with 'Purrfect in every way' - we should all take that confidence from cats

This shows the background better before i added my toppers.

This shows how the pearl texture pastes shimmers in the light and you can make out how the orange paint picks up the paw prints in the background.

and this is how it came.  £2 in B&M

Items Used:
cat head MDF
Katzelkraft cat stamp
Paw print & stars stencils
Cosmic shimmer gold pearl texture paste
Golden white texture paste
Purple Brusho
Purple cosmic shimmer Pixie powder
Imagination crafts - starlight paint - orange
Printed tissue paper

Pet Sympathy card

Good Morning everyone.

Today im sharing a sad card to make, for a good friend who had to say goodbye to her furbaby.

6x6 white linen cardbase.  I first stenciled the heart pawprints onto the card base using original distress inks in grey and black.  I die cut a heart that was big enough to cover the large paw print to the right and stenciled the large paw print with red ink and then the rest with grey.

I then die cut the paw prints across the middle of the heart keeping all the little 'waste' bits.  I added a piece of patterned paper to the inside of the card.  I then closed the card and piece by piece and alot of patience i glued all the paw prints pieces back into place, so that they are glued to the inside of the card but when closed line up with the original die cuts on the front of the card - photo below will make more sense hopefully.  I had to close the card and glue them in through the paw print die cut so that i could line it all up.

I then lined the die cut heart up in place on the front.  I then stamped the crazy dog stamp twice and coloured him in, this is the stamp that looked the most like a little westie dog.  I then fussy cut him out and added to the card front.  Stamped sentiment to finish.

Hopefully you can see the heart behind the dog better here

a close up and this shows better the paw print apertures

And the inside. I picked a piece of sea patterned paper as the little man used to love his daily walks along the sea front.  I added the second stamped dog here.  Hopefully this photo helps make sense of how i glued the paw prints back into place so that when the card is closed they line up on the front of the card with the stenciled heart.

Items Used:
Elizabeth crafts paw print die
Paw print heart stencil
Heart die
Tim Holtz crazy dog stamp
Distress inks hickory smoke, black soot, fired brick
Bobunny paper
Justrite sentiment stamp

Thank you all for stopping by as always.  I hope you all have a brilliant week.

Black Cats

Good Morning everyone.

Today im sharing a Male birthday card i made for my parents elderly neighbour Harry.  He eats his evening meal each day with my parents and joins in alot of family gatherings so is sort of an 'adopted' grandad to us.

Harry has a black cat that was dumped on the farm as a kitten, the cat is also called Harry, Harry the man is very eccentric and all his cats have been called Harry too, so this cat now is Harry the 6th or some such.  My parents also have male black cats, one rescued at 1 yr old after it was abandoned.  Anyway Harry's cat spends his life patrolling the perimeter to keep all others at bay.  My parents cat just ignores him.  So for this  card for Harry the man i went with a black cat theme for a change.

Unusually for me this is a one layer card, i wanted to cut the paw prints into the base card so it peeked through into the insert.

6x6 white cardblank.  I first stenciled the paw print, but as my stencil is a heart shape and i didn't think that was apt for Harry i also used a circle die to cut a circle out of a piece of scrap card for a mask.  I taped down the heart stencil on the base card and then placed the circle aperture piece over the top and then brushed on my oxide inks.  This meant i kept the paw prints in a circle shape.  I then removed the stencils, replaced the circle mask and lightly inked around the outside edge of the circle.  Hope that makes sense?

I then used my 2nd paw print stencil to add some paw prints around the outside edge of the cardblank and then again lightly inked around the outside with the same oxide inks. I then die cut the paw print die into the middle of the card.  I stamped the greeting.

I then stamped two of the crazy cats onto white card and coloured with grey & black distress inks.  I used green oxide ink for their eyes.  I then fussy cut them out, after gently shaping their bodies i attached them to the card front with glue gel.

I used some black patterned paper for my card insert so that where it shows through the paw print apertures you see the black paw prints.  I added a little strip/off cut down the left hand edge of the card front to tie it together a bit.

A close up, trying to show peeking through the paw prints into the inside of the card and my black paper insert.  I use a beautiful double sided paper from the 2019 range of paper pads at B&M - so recommend them for quality.  Ideal for boxes and envelopes too.

This shows the 2 plastic paw print stencils and the circle mask i made to turn the heart into a circle.  Of course you can use this method to turn any stencil into a circle shape if you only want part of a stencil.  Or try die cutting another shape.

Items Used:
Tim Holtz Crazy cats mini stamps
Elizabeth Crafts 'hearts & paws prints' die '1563'
Paw print stencils
Circle die
Stampin up sentiment stamsp 'curly cute'
Oxide Distress inks - twisted citron, cracked pistachio, peacock feathers
