Penguin Family

Good Morning everyone

 Today ive dug out an old favourite stamp of mine  - the grumpy penguins from Katzelkraft.  I also managed to use some of my acetate off cuts - as acetate is plastic i try not to waste any, although quite often for shaker cards or if im colouring it with alcohol inks i recycle plastic packaging.

I first coloured the acetate strips with alcohol inks - this one in blues and golds.  I then took a folded white 6x6" card blank and cut an inch strip off one end, i then attached the acetate strip inbetween on the inside so the glue is hidden, you can then see the acetate on the front and back of the card.

I then stencilled on some stars with blue distress inks and little dots using gold paint.  I tore a strip of white cardstock, stamped my greeting and then dry embossed with a snowy EF and added this to the bottom for my penguins to stand on.

Penguins stamped, little colour added with distress inks and cut out and arranged.

Die cut snowflake and glitter glue highlights added to finish.

This shows the acetate panel better.  I put the alcohol inks on the inside and then a white paper insert helps the colours show up

Penguin Snow Dome

Good Morning Everyone, i hope you are having a good week. 

Going on from my snowman dome that i uploaded recently (see here),  ive now made a bigger one using those fabulous grumpy penguin stamps from Katzelkraft, also instead of the coloured micro lights ive used plain clear ones this time.  I built a little igloo for my penguins to live in and plenty of snowflakes. 

Dome size approx 7x4".  Its a plastic dome with a wooden base and it comes with a seperate wood insert - this is what i built my scene on, so its easy to remove and work on.  I first splashed white paint around the inside of the dome to give the effect of snow falling.  I then stamped and cut out my penguins - added a little simple colour with pens. I also made a simple igloo white white card and my circle dies.  

On the bottom disc i built up snow using white texture paste, glitter and little balls.  I then stuck my penguins into the wet texture paste and added my igloo to the back of the scene. I then die cut lots of snowflakes from white card, i arranged some inside the dome and as they were all symmatical i also added one on the outside to match up to the ones inside - this hid any glue id used.

Then i threaded the lights through the holes in the base to finish. 

This one shows the igloo a bit better.  I die cut a circle and trimmed the bottom off in a slight curve, i die cut a smaller circle to make my entrance, i added detail with a blue grey alcohol marker.

Christmas Penguins Picture

Good Morning all

As i loved those Grumpy penguins so much last year but always give them away i decided to make something for myself for a change.  So ive made a 3 dimensional picture for my wall to come out year after year at Christmas.  

8x8"   On white card i first made a sky scene with brushos, pixie powders and then inked around the edges with black soot & chipped sapphire distress inks.  White paint flicked on to give a snow effect.

I then designed my igloo.  I first die cut a circle , trimmed off the bottom in a curve and using a black fine liner drew my ice blocks in.  I then edged each block with grey pen and glitter.  For the doorway i cut a smaller circle and cut out the centre and mounted using foam over black card to make it look like an entrance. 

Using white paint and texture paste i created the snowy floor for my penguins to stand upon.  I sprinkled glitter and snow flakes into the wet texture paste. I haven't gone right to the edge as it needs to fit in the frame.

 I stamped my penguin family and simply coloured them and then fussy cut them out. 

For my fairy lights i die cut them from white card, coloured with alcohol markers and added glossy accents.  For my moon i die cut the sentiment circle and used distress inks to colour softly add colours.

I then added my scene into a black box frame, i added more texture paste & snow to the front of the frame and splashed on some white paint for snow. 

Well its already been mentioned by my guests this week as its on the mantle piece for all to see but especially me to enjoy when sat in my chair.  Those penguins still make me smile everything i see them.

Christmas Critters

Good Morning everyone.

Its time once again for a new challenge over at Cardz4guyz   The theme for the next 2 weeks is:

So any creatures associated with Christmas

Ive gone with a penguin and dug out the first Katzelkraft stamps i bought of this grumpy penguins.  Everyone loved the cards i made with them last year. 

6x5.5" white cardblank.  I found a sheet of ombre patterned paper in a bluey purple to use, i cut slightly smaller than the card front and dry embossed with a snow fall embossing folder, then mounted onto black card and the card base. 

I die cut the star frame twice, once from white and once from black card and off set them.  I cut a panel of the same paper as the background to fit the middle of the frame and then mounted onto the front with foam tape.  I stamped my penguins, added a little colour and fuzzy cut him out. I gently shaped him and added to the frame with glue gel.

Stamped greeting diecut into circle and mounted onto a black circle and added to the front.  I coloured some clear enamel stars with orange marker and added around my penguin so he is in a nice starry sky.

MDF Baubles

Good Morning all, can you believe thats another week gone and next week will be the big day we've been building upto for months?

So today im sharing a set of MDF baubles i decorated, instead of cards for close family and friends this year i made them a bauble to enjoy year after year.  I had great fun making them all differently.  They are approx 5" square (13cm)  They see my funky set of paperartsy stamps in action, along with those penguins again!

Snowman in the twinkling fairy lights

So for this one.  I first stamped and coloured the snowman with inktense pencils as they are permanent when you add water so better for long term projects.  I then added texture paste with a stencil and once dried i used a mix of starlight paints on top.  Then splattered on white paint to act as snow.

The then added texture paste snow to the bottom for something for my characters to stand on. 

The fairy lights were die cut from white card, then coloured with inktense pencils and then glossy accents added.  I also added glossy accent to the snowmans eyes and buttons. 

Twine ribbon bows and hanging loops to finish.  The backs of each bauble i painted in the same colour starlight paints.

Christmas Characters in the moon light

This one has the paperarsty totem characters, all coloured with inktense pencils and cut out, glossy accents on the eyes.  A die cut sentiment behind, i added a little yellow ink to the centre circle to act as a 'moon' in the night sky.

Polar Bears

This one has the starlight and snow background, but only texture paste for the snow, while the paste is wet i added loose glitter which sticks.  Fairy lights as before, this time a die cut polar bear, once die cut in white i gently added a little blue ink around him.  I added glitter glue to his little snowflakes.

Jingling Penguins.   

I first covered the bauble in snowflake patterned paper, sanded the edges and then painted the edges and back in silver paint.  Added a large die cut snowflake, torn paper snow bank, to which i then added snow texture paste and glitter.  Stamped the penguins and added a little colour before cutting out.  To this one i added jingle bells to the top with the bow.

Hide 'n' Seek

This one was made for children so wanted a fun feel.  As above to cover the bauble with paper and snow.  I then stamped my characters and coloured them all in and cut out.  Rudolph, the penguin and Elf are hiding among the snowpeople.  Santa is trying to find them! 😁.   Again jingle bells added to the top.

Penguins.

Now this one was a late make for my dad who absolutely loved the penguin cards i made for mum to send and asked for one for himself.  After id added the circular frame with the fancy inner edge it reminded me of some very old baubles my mum has, where on one side they are open with a fancy edge.  Anyway i coloured the penguins and cut out and added orange gems to the sky as stars that also pick up on the orange in the penguins.  The brusho/pixie powder background was left over from my penguin cards.  

He loved it so that was worth it!

Its A Double Diamond Christmas

 Good Morning everyone and welcome to a new week. I hope you are all keeping warm and those of you with that nasty cough and cold are on the mend. 

So today i am sharing a set of double diamond fold cards i made for Christmas.  These are really fiddly to make up, although i use a die to cut them out. I dug out all those old Christmas papers and sat die cutting for several evenings. 

These first two use LOTV nitwit papers.  Using the tattered lace diamond fold die, line it up and cut twice, then carefully using a bone folder manipulate all the score lines until it all comes together.  Then i die cut the papers using the matting dies in the set. 

For my embellishments i picked up on the christmas roses and holly in the paper and built up simlar toppers with flower, holly and pine dies.  Pearls to finish.

This one is the opposite colours with buttons to finish.  Also shows them standing up easily. 

I computer printed the sentiment and die cut and added to the back of the card, plain paper added to the sides to write the message on. 

Button Holly.  Picking up on the holly and colours in the LOTV/Nitwit papers.  I die cut the holly from pearl olive and soft gold cardstocks, they matched the paper colours pretty well.  Buttons used as the holly berries.

Red & Gold Poinsettia.  Spellbinder poinsettia die cut from ruby red and green cardstock, gently shaped and a pearl centre.  All papers from Kaisercraft 'holy night'  The papers have gold foiling which doesn't show up too well.

So today is the start of a new challenge over at Make My Monday

The theme this fortnight is

SNOW FUN

So back to playing with those wonderful grumpy penguins, snowy acetate & yep you guessed it Brusho's and Pixie Powders.  Im sure getting my money's worth out of those little pots of colourful magic.  Ive made tag shaped cards.

First i stamped the penguins in black ink and added touches of colour with wink of stella pens and fuzzy cut them out. 

Die cut a white cross stitch tag, which i then layered onto brusho card and cut a small border, then i added this to a white 4x6 top fold card blank and cut the top corners to match the shape of the tag.  I added a strip of snowy acetate on to the tag and added my penguins with glue gel..  

Die cut a large snowflake from brusho card, this i put over hanging the edge of the card.  Stamped Joy hand cut and added with glue gel.  Orange gem to pick up on the colour of the penguins beaks and feet.

I made a small batch of these.  Ive had great fun with these penguins this year.

Grumpy Penguins

Good Morning all and welcome to another new week.  

So today i am sharing the first christmas cards ive made this year.  I just loved these grumpy penguins when i saw them in action last year so just had to buy them. Their expressions just make me laugh. I have combined them with an acetate cardbase and brusho/pixie powder mix for the backgrounds. 

First Make an acetate 6x6" cardblank using the snowfall acetate.  Then using brushos & pixie powders make wintry backgrounds.  Stamped the penguins and added a little colour to the beaks and eyes using wink of stella pens.  I then cut them out.  I die cut a frame from white cardstock and then mounted the penguins.  From left over brusho card i die cut various snowflakes, layered them up and added a gem to finish. 

Just different colours, i also added splashes of white paint to the background to match the snowfall on the acetate. 

I love that using the brusho's and pixie powders that no two backgrounds are the same. 

Just showing the card stood up and showing the acetate better.  I also added matching die cuts to the back of the front and back of the back so that no glue is on show, it also adds more space for writing and little messages that we add sometimes.

 I know im behind the times making my first acetate cards but really enjoyed them, so watch out for more acetate in action!
