Its Summertime

Good Morning everyone.

The Katzelkraft stamp set i used for my Christmas in July cards had a 4th door stamp which was more square than the others so didn't fit my arch shape so here Ive made a summery card with it instead. 

6x6" white card base.  I first stamped the image and watercoloured with distress inks, i added glossy accents to the little window & the lanterns and glitter to the flowers.  Once dry die cut into a wonky stitched square.

I took a piece of white card, inked one side with iced spruce & shaded lilac distress inks which id used to watercolour some of the image and added to one side of a brick embossing folder and ran through the machine.  On putting the card together I think i should have inked the other side of the folder so that the bricks were white and the mortar grey, but i think as ive covered most of it up I can get away with my wall building error😀

I die cut ivy from card previously inked with green brushos & pixie powders so it has a subtle shimmer in the light.  I inked up a scrap of white card with raspberry & persimmon distress inks which i used to watercolour the flowers on the topper, once die i die cut into small flowers .I attached my door topper with glue gel and then arranged the ivy and flowers.  I added glitter glue to the flower centers for a bit of shimmer.

Glittering Christmas Stars

Morning everyone, i hope you had a lovely weekend, boy was it stormy last night here in Cornwall.

Today im sharing a batch of Christmas cards.  It first involved making backgrounds using alcohol inks on Yupo paper - i had such fun with that and playing with various colours and patterns.  Then part two was die cutting a star wreath in the middle and then some die cut star baubles to finish. 

5x5 white card base.  I first made my backgrounds using Tim Holtz alcohol inks on yupo paper, i also added in a couple of his new pearl range and they are gorgeous.  I then die cut a square of the inky background to fit the cardbase and attached it well to the middle of the card front.  I then die cut my star wreath die in the middle so that it cut completely through the cardfront. As the yupo paper is so thin the die easily cut through that and the 300gsm card front.

I then die cut 2 white circle frames, one for the inside of the star wreath circle and one for the outside to help frame it and draw the eye in.  I then die cut my hanging star die from both silver mirror card and silver glitter card, as its in 2 parts i then partnered up the mirror version with the glitter version, so in this first card i have a glitter outline around my solid mirror star, then for the next card i used the mirror outline with a solid glitter star in the middle. 

Stamped greeting to finish.  I made my inserts from pearlised paper so that it slightly shimmers in the light through the stars.

A close up, you can clearly see my star wreath and all the little appertures it leaves in the card front so that the light shines through.  I only have one hanging star die so had to cut it 3 times per card but it easily fit through my mini machine so not too bad to do sat in front of the tv. 

This shows the 2 cards side by side, the silver glitter solid stars on the left and the mirror one on the right. Blue, purples & pinks.

Different colour version and on these ones i used gold stars again in the glitter card and mirror card.

 Red and gold tones, gold stars. 

I really enjoyed making these ones and just love the vibrant colours of the alcohol inks of yupo paper.

Marbling Fun

Good Morning everyone.

I recently lost my mojo, so i decided to have a play with a technique thats been on my to try list for eons - yes im well behind the times.  Shaving foam marbling.  So after finally finding the right shaving foam i dug out the aqua tints and really old mica sprays to have a play.  

Well what a mess, i was covered, the carpet was covered and so was the cat, actually it reminded me of my first outing with brusho's where the kitchen lino was red and looked like id got blood everywhere - they went to the back of the cupboard then for many many months until a craft friend convinced me to try them again and now i love them so i wasn't going to be so easily put off this time and coming up with a plan tried again the following day to slightly less mess. 

I cut white card to A6 size (4x6") so easier to handle.  Spray a layer of shaving foam onto a wipeable surface, even out with a spatula, then add your chosen ink colours and swirl around into a pattern.  Place your white card onto the surface and gently push into the foam, you only need to touch the surface, peel off and scrap off the foam.  You are left with a marbled pattern on your card.  Magic really.  You can keep using the foam, as the colour fades add in more ink and swirl again.  

2 Simple cards to start with.  I had some not so great looking marble which i decided to die cut into these leaves and its amazing the difference die cutting can make.  I picked a piece of marble for the background which used the same colours as the one i die cut the leaves from.  Attached it to a white DL cardblank.  

I added the leaves to 3 die cut stitched squares which i attached to the base with foam tape.  I die cut the sentiment from the same card i die cut the leaves from.

A blue/purple version.  I only added glue down the centres of the leaves and gently curled up both sides to add interest and dimension. 

Just a few of my marbled papers.  Like all new techniques to us, we learn each time and hopefully improve.  I need to find something better to scrape the foam off so its easier.   LIke die cutting up the not so nice pieces, even if the whole piece isn't so good if you look you can usually find part of it that you like so cut that piece into a square or rectangle.  I tend to use a view finder like you do if you are painting a picture/landscape. If you fancy a play all you need is cheap shaving foam not the gel and a liquid colour medium - reinkers, sprays, food colouring, liquid paints.

Ladybirds

Good Morning everyone.

Today im sharing a fun childrens birthday card using ladybirds or to my followers elsewhere in the world ladybugs.  I think its actually suitable for adults too.

DL cardbase.  This card using alot of scraps and snippets.  The squares, ladybirds and sentiment were all cut from little pieces of card inked with brushos, pixies powders and oxide inks.  The flowers left over bits of white card.  

I first cut a panel of white card slightly smaller than the cardfront, i embossed this with a brick wall embossing folder and lightly brushed oxide inks in tumbled glass & pistachio over the top.  I added this panel to the card front. 

I didnt have enough of one colour of inked card for 3 squares, so the 2 outside ones are from brusho/pixie powder card and the middle one is oxide inks. The ladybirds were cut from black card and red brusho card and layered up.  The sentiment is cut from the same red brusho card.  I gently shaped my white flowers and added to the circles and then my 3 ladybirds added one top. 

Close up on the ladybirds.  We don't get an awful lot of them here in this part of Cornwall due to the damp atmosphere so its always a little exciting to see the odd one or two in the garden.

SMILE Family portraits!

Good Morning all, i hope you have all had a good week and those that haven't been well are on the mend. 

So today I'm sharing the second outing of my Tim Holtz crazy mini cats and dog stamps.  I went with the idea of family photos on the wall.  This time instead of colouring the cats and dogs I left them white and went with a bright background. 

First i stamped the cat/dog, and drew in a little background scene using a black fine liner, i then masked the images with pebeo drawing gum, once that was dry i built up the colour with distress inks, this one is ripe persimmon and cracked pistachio.  I then splashed on water and where it dries gives a mottled effect.   

I then stamped over the top in grey using Stampin up Dictionary definition stamp to add detail. Once dry remove the drawing gum and shade around the images using a soft grey pencil to add more depth.

This version is twisted citron and picked raspberry inks. Different from the cats is that i used a pale lilac marker on the dogs noses and collars. 

This version is salty ocean and wild honey inks, where they meet gives the 3rd colour of green.  

Smile is a sizzix die cut in the same colours of ink and a black shadow added.  Craft wire and gems to add the picture hangings. 

and showing one of the inserts, i stamped all of them in grey with the same cats/dogs i used on the card front.  A5 cards in size.

LittleEm's Bauble branches!

Good Morning all, its a nice grey and wet day here.  So todays cards are a set of LittleEm's!  The wonderful Kathkat named them 2 years ago when i started these mini cards and its stuck! 

 Off cuts and scraps left over from making the gingerbread man cards. They are approx 3x6"

Papers are Authentique 'Believe' die cut into stitched squares, layered onto white card, card base is ginger from payper box.  Elizabeth crafts pine branch die, spellbinders bauble die, pearls to finish.  I covered the baubles in glossy accents to make them shiny. LOTV sentiment stamp.   I know you don't actually get berries on pine branches but its artistic license!
